Mission & Vision
Prishtina Sustainable Design Week exists to put design to work.
Once a year we turn the city into a studio. A week of conferences, workshops, exhibitions, public installations and open labs where designers, architects, researchers, scientists, students, craftspeople and neighbours build alongside one another.
We treat sustainability as a method to practise: waste handled as raw material, production brought closer to home, knowledge shared in the open, and every prototype made in public view. What the festival makes it leaves behind: skills in the hands of young creatives and a network that outlasts the week.
We imagine Prishtina as a city that produces its own future: a Fab City in the full sense, where what is consumed can be made, what is broken can be repaired, and what is discarded returns as a resource. In that city circular practice is ordinary infrastructure rather than an exception.
Our broader horizon is a Kosovo whose design culture is exported rather than imported. We work towards a creative economy where young practitioners build careers at home, where regional collaboration is a habit, and where the country is recognised across the world for what it prototypes first.
Next Futures
The 2026 curatorial theme
“Next” a bridge stretched across the gap between the present and the future, one we are always crossing and never allowed to stand on. It is a horizon of expectation that keeps receding, a destination that vanishes the moment it is reached. The past is fixed, but “Next” is the open space in which we still get to choose who we want to be. PSDWs 2nd edition takes this unstable, inevitable in-between and treats it as a site of intervention: approaching “Next” as a state of agency.
Adding futures, in the plural, is the turn that makes this a design position rather than a meditation. There is no single next arriving on schedule to be forecast and awaited; there are many possible futures, and design is how we take a hand in which of them we get. So, the week is structured to move from thought to matter: we sense the signals shaping what comes, create the prototypes and materials that test them, and narrate what we find so it belongs to more than the people who made it.
The question stops being what will happen to us. It becomes, insistently a “what’s next?”.
